Questions & Answers regarding ActiveGPS

AD-Teknik's ActiveGPS is a totally free system, you don't have to pay any fee for updates.
Instead you'll get information from three different directions:
  • AD-Teknik will control all of Scandinavia to keep our database up to date. We will continuously check all positions.
  • Everyone that owns a ActiveGPS can assist in updating the database. When you see a new camera that the unit does not react upon, you simply press the button until you hear a beep. ActiveGPS has now determined position, speed & direction. Then when you connect it to internet with the enclosed software this information is sent to AD-Teknik's database for validating.
  • You can also import data from other databases on the internet, the software supports TomTom's OV2-format.

How much does it cost to get access to AD-Teknik's database?

No, ActiveGPS has an internal antenna, but it requires free vision to the satellites which should be no problem if you place the unit up on the dashboard.
In these cases you may need a external antenna:

  • If you got an almost vertical windshield.
  • If you want to place the unit so it can't get a free vision with the satellites.
  • Windshields with built-in heating protection can damp the signal according to our supplier. We have tested this in different cars but we can't see that it will disturb the signal.

Which outputs is there on the unit?

  • USB to power the unit in the vehicle or to update the database and to use the unit as a common GPS receivers
  • SMA, for external antenna

Other benefits?

  • No unnecessary alarms. ActiveGPS will only alarm for positions in your driving direction.
  • If the speed limit is exceeded ActiveGPS will continue to sound until you lower your speed.
  • ActiveGPS can be connected to your PDA, it communicates with NMEA3.0, see data

What is included when I buy an ActiveGPS?

  • Power cable for the car
  • USB cable for your computer

No, all you have to do is to attach it on your dashboard and plug the power cable into the 12V outlet. Start the car and within a minute or two ActiveGPS have established contact with the satellites.

Do I as a customer have some guarantees for any errors in the database?

  • AD-Teknik updates and control the database continuously
  • New speed cameras are put up all the time therefore AD-Teknik can't guarantee that the database is up to date
  • ActiveGPS is a driving aid to prevent the driver to exceed the speed limit. Customers taking part of our information can't hold AD-Teknik responsible for possible speeding tickets.
